“ Its one of my favourites, I just love sitting here and watching the world go by. If you have a couple of chairs or blanket take them along as the picnic benches (which are covered at the moment) get busy. There's nearly always a queue but it soon goes down, lots of choice and the food prepared fresh for you ... Great coffee too always a bonus. It's a great area to explore as well, close to the canal network It's the perfect place to start or finish, it can get busy but all the best places do ! ”
“ First visit today to The Old Mill Retreat Cafe, only live 5 mins away and pass it every morning before going down the river for my early morning bike ride... so me and my wife decided to take a drive down to pop in today and we was very impressed, impressed with the service and information concerning the parking, 2 hours free with the QR code the lady’s give you when you order... food was very nice... I had the classic Breakfast and Emily had a cheese and onion toasty with 2 tea’s yum yum .. lovely atmosphere sitting along side the river... my only criticism would be the table was a bit wobbly from the uneven floor... but if that’s all I’ve got to critique... your doing a good job.. value for money and lovely ingredients .. didn't have a photo of the cafe but had a lovely shot of the river side that’s just a skip and a hop away ”
“ This very busy cafe offers everything you could want. Friendly prompt service with loyalty bonus for drinks. Next to canal and great when the sun is shining. ”
“ The staff very kindly catered for vegan options. Had a delicious breakfast with a cheeky side order of chips. Highly recommended. ”
“ Great sunny position with good variety of food and soft drinks. They also do Kelly's ice cream! Perfect place for stop off along the Lea River. ”
“ Absolutely loved this place! I had a full English breakfast and it was incredible — everything was perfectly cooked, from the crispy bacon to the juicy sausages and perfectly done eggs. The beans and toast were spot on, and everything came out hot and fresh. I also had one of their smoothies, which was super tasty and refreshing — full of natural flavour. This is a proper local cafe with a great vibe and friendly staff. You can tell they really care about quality and customer experience. A true hidden gem. Five stars without a doubt! ”
“ I would just like to say a big thumbs up to the Old Mill Retreat cafe what a lovely cafe, we travel over from Hatfield for walk feed the ducks been coming for like 4 years . The staff at the cafe go above and beyond to make you feel so welcome, they are so so lovely , the food is awesome ”
“ One of our favourite cafes to go all year round. It's a small cafe but still have three options of seating area. There's seating inside the cabin, seating outside in the sun, as well as seating outside but under a cover which protects you from rain and sun. Food is excellent and high quality, please try their chips and ask for well done, they are served hot and are crispy outside and soft inside. Linda and her family are really friendly. Julia the chef makes the best breakfast, she normally cuts the sausage in half which makes them taste so much better. No mention that the location of the cafe cannot be better, it's in the middle of green area and right by the river, where you can always see wildlife. Birds build nests and have babies around there regularly. It's a really good place to go for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, either for the locals or for people having a walk by river Lea. Strongly recommended. P.S. There's plenty of parking space nearby which isn't controlled by the cafe, but if you shop from the cafe and ask for a voucher, you get a period of free parking! ”
